Anyone for Tennis?
Dated:
14/06/2010
The four teams at the competition entered through their local cluster festivals across the Island. The teams were made up of four players, each being seeded and playing the other similar standard seeds.
Some of the schools had coaching at school prior to the competitions from local clubs, and Ventnor and Ryde Mead both hosted their local cluster competitions creating strong links between the clubs and schools. The Competition was also supported with some young leaders from Sandown High School who took on the roles of Umpires for the four courts, ensuring consistency in the matches.
The standard of Tennis was very high, with some players showing an exceedingly high level of technical ability which is very promising for the future of the sport. The competition was very close with the last match being the decider, which St. Mary’s won making them the champions over Oakfield, leaving St Wilfrid’s and Niton in the lower placings.
Many thanks to the clubs, schools and individuals that supported this competition, and good luck to the players!
