Girls Rugby Rules!

Dated: 30/03/2011

The IOW schools girls Tag Rugby Tournaments tool place at Medina High School on the 29th March, on a rearranged date from January, run by the Competition manager with support from local clubs.

Both the High Schools and the Middle schools competitions ran alongside each other, in a form foresight of what is to come in the next academic year, with support from the Ladies Club and Alan Evans, linked to Vectis Rugby Club. The girls enjoyed the spring like weather and this seemed to give them more of a spring in their step, rather than the energy sucking bog, which would have faced them in January.

Three schools competed in the high school event, with some good play and some excellent breaking runs and tries from all teams, showing potential, which was spotted, but the supporting club members. The winners, not conceding a match were Sandown coached by Miss Bartlett, and in second place were Medina whose coach was Mrs Bartlett. Carisbrroke gained third place and they were coached by Mr Flemming, and supported by Mrs Makepeace. All the teams received medals and the opportunity to attend coaching sessions.

There were three teams left in the Middle schools tournament that showed experience and a lot enthusiasm to produce some close very matches, with some high quality Tag Rugby. Alan Evans refereed the matches and was 'impressed with the standard of play’. The winners were Mayfield A team, with West Wight taking the silver position, and Mayfield B team coming in third. The last of the matches was won with the last move of the game giving the team a winning score, giving an exciting climax to an exciting tournament!

Thanks to all the support from clubs and individuals with this event.
